Environmentally Friendly Products You Can Use to Clean Your Carpet

The task of cleaning your carpet often starts with gathering the tools and materials that you will need. Among the necessary items are carpet cleaning products and solutions that can usually be bought from almost any store. These would be the common cleaning materials used to get dirt, dust, and stains out of carpet. But what some people are unaware of is that some of these cleaning products contain ingredients that can be harmful to our environment and even to ourselves.

Protecting and preserving our environment has become increasingly important so we should always look for ways to prevent pollutants from damaging our surroundings. The question then becomes what are we to use for our carpet cleaning needs? Well the answer can be as simple as peeking into your kitchen. There are several household items that can be used as effective substitutes to the many commercial carpet cleaning products that we traditionally use. Here, we will take a look at a couple of eco-friendly alternatives that you can use when cleaning your carpet.

Baking Soda – Baking soda is a common item that you will find in many homes all over the country. As its name suggests, it is primarily used in baking and cooking. But baking soda can also serve as a great alternative to traditional carpet cleaning products. Baking soda is a fantastic tool for neutralizing odors. Just like in your refrigerator, baking soda can absorb odors from your carpet as well. Use baking soda by sprinkling an even layer of it over your carpet and letting it set for several minute, hours, or even overnight, depending on the amount of odor neutralizing you need. Then simply extract the baking soda with your vacuum cleaner. As you remove the powder you will be removing all the odor from your carpet also.

Vinegar – Vinegar, like baking soda, is another item normally used in cooking. But it is also a great tool for cleaning up stains from your carpet. Vinegar is readily available and very safe for the environment. You can use vinegar by mixing a teaspoon of it in a spray bottle with some hot water to create a cleaning solution. This solution can then be sprayed onto the stained area and left to work for a short time. Blot the area with a clean towel or cloth. Add more of the solution as necessary and repeat the process until your carpet is clean again.

Cleaning your carpet can be done without the use of harmful commercial carpet cleaning products. These two green alternatives will help you save Mother Earth while still getting your carpet clean and fresh again.

Bathroom Suites and Homes Influenced by Modern Technology

Home spaces such as bathroom suites are being shaped by modern technology, with people keen to live in multiuse areas.

This is according to trendsetter and spotter Douglas Coupland, who told the Vancouver Sun that the need for open communication is physically manifesting itself in the removal of walls in a home, saying: “I think the era of single-use rooms is over.”

He explained that he now watches the majority of his TV on a laptop which, in a wireless property, can be moved anywhere.

Mr Coupland, who studied art and design before turning his hand to writing, went on to note that the idea of a home’s centre, where everyone gathers, is no longer tied to one place in a residence, as communal spaces are now more flexible.

When investing in bathroom furniture such as bathroom tiles and toilets, it might also prove to be the in-thing to install a television set as well.

For example, including a TV as bathroom furniture may not have been considered before, but the Philadelphia Inquirer recently stated that some homeowners are keen to watch shows while in the bath.

The Philadelphia Inquirer also stated that, the designated TV room appears to be falling by the wayside given the growing number of viewing devices and the shrinking size of residences.

Speaking to the news source, Jeff Giacoponello explained that his family owns four flatscreen televisions – one in the kitchen, one in the master bedroom, one in an open room above a fireplace and another in the master bathroom suite.

“The Jacuzzi is a great place to watch [TV] and relax,” Mr Giacoponello remarked.

Deborah Grassi, real estate agent, made further comments, saying where summer holiday rental properties are concerned, there must be a TV in each room.

A Brief Introduction to Construction Project Management

Construction management is a broader concept that deals with various aspects from project conceptualization to completion. It includes project scope, planning, assessing project risks, organizing multiple activities, controlling initiatives, scheduling, and implementing effective strategies and tools to achieve repeatable success throughout the system. There is an essential link between clients’ expectations and acceptance of a completed project. A project management company is supposed to ensure an uninterrupted and smooth transfer of a project from the design process to the completion of a project.

A project life cycle involves four stages which include planning, execution, and delivery. Project stages play a critical role in providing better control and management. A project usually starts gradually, touches the peak and then declines to final delivery of the project to the client. What follows are some of the basic construction project management activities:

Resourcing

A project manager can use bar charts to resource the project. This simple way of resourcing can help plan a logical breakdown of activities for the project and the expected time required to complete these activities. Each activity demands a different set of resources which needs to be identified. Materials, labor, subcontractor, and equipment are some of the fundamental resources required to carry out a construction project. We can adjust the chart bar by moving different activities back and forth in time to reduce the quantity of a resource required to streamline the requirements for that resource.

Material Ordering

The bar chart can help a contractor identify when a material is needed for a project and order it accordingly. Delivering a project on time is of supreme significance. Therefore, it is important to consider the delivery time when a material is ordered. This systematic approach reduces storage costs and decreases the chances of spoiling, shrinkage, and a material being damaged.

Contingency plan

Some projects can get complicated as not everything on site goes as per planning or expectations. Events like heavy rain, injuries, and absence of employees due to sickness can affect the flow of work leading to delays and pressure on the managers. The inclusion of an appropriate amount of slack time can allow a contractor to deal with contingencies. Slack time or float can be treated as a separate activity. However, float is often included in the activities themselves, adding more time than anticipated to get the work done.

Risk management

Construction is a complicated and challenging process which drives contractors to interpret and ensure compliance with codes, laws, regulations, etc. Communication and coordination among stakeholders may highlight differing interests, purposes, and expectations. Risk, therefore, should be considered as an important component of a project.
